Martin Mere WWT host Heywood Model Railway Group for the indoor model train show

Despite the windy and wet weather on Saturday, the Martin Mere Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust near Southport, still managed to attract a throng of visitors; including twitchers and families out for a bracing walk in the fresh air, enjoying the spectacle of all the many varieties of wild birds that flock to the area.

However, visitors on Saturday who came in from the cold, were in for a treat, as they could wander around in the warm and enjoy the numerous displays of model trains there as part of the annual indoor model train show.  This is an exhibition put on by the Heywood Model Railway Group each year.

Excerpt from the Martin Mere WWT website: "Visit Martin Mere on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 January 2012 for the annual indoor model train show. See a huge range of model train displays from the members of the Heywood Model Railway Group. You can watch as large displays have trains running continuously around, be amazed by the detail on the layouts, ask questions of how they were constructed or have a go at driving Thomas the Tank Engine."

Excerpt from the HMRG website: So what's the program for 2012? First on the agenda is the Modelling Weekend at Martin Mere wild fowl centre near Southport where several models will be taken to display over the weekend of 21st and 22nd of January. These will include three of the club models Rochwood, Shawbury and Thomas, along with some of our members own models. The weekend is usually very busy with the model railways attracting enough additional visitors to more than double the normal weekend head count at the centre.
