Gorse Hill Nature Reserve Aughton Open Day May 2012
Prior to World War II the land around Holly Lane in Aughton, West Lancashire was covered with rich woodland. After the war the woodland was cleared to make way for farming to feed a hungry country. Now sixty years later the wheel has turned full circle and the woodland has returned.
Aughton Annual Parish Assembly 14th May 2012. The parish councillors gathered tonight at the Aughton Village Hall, may have been surprised, when they arrived for the annual parish assembly, to see so many middle aged male residents crowding the entrance hall. However, this eager group was actually the Aughton Male Voice Choir attending a rehearsal and not a flash mob hitting the parish council meeting.
Christ Church Aughton Craft Fayre Multiple Sclerosis Fundraising
The West Lancashire branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society is having a Craft Fayre fundraising event at Christ Church Missionary Centre, Aughton on Friday 18th May 2012. The evening starts at 7pm.
Following the successful Craft Fayre held back in February at St. Anne's in Ormskirk, supporters are hoping to raise even more money to help local sufferers of Multiple Sclerosis

I was fortunate to get to
see the dress rehearsal last week and I am amazed at the energy and
creativity, that Tony and U3A members have managed to put into the
show. The huge jaundiced jalopy, spouting steam and light like some
four wheeled dragon, brightens the stage and serves as a colourful
focus for much of the on stage action.

The humour, generously sprinkled with colouful language and grown up content, was received with laughter and applause throughout the evening.

The event was organised by Aughton Institute club steward Martin O'Looney and Ormskirk Snooker League Administrator Barry Adlington and compered by Dune FM stars Dave "The Mighty" Quinn and Trevor Ford.
Johhn Parrott 1991 World Snooker Champion plays local league player Paddy Tyndall at the Aughton Institute fundraiser evening for Claire-House Children's Hospice.
John Parrott MBE is an English professional snooker player and TV personality. He won the World Snooker Championship in 1991, defeating Jimmy White in the final. Two years earlier he had lost 3–18 to Steve Davis, the heaviest final defeat in modern times. He repeated his win over White to add the UK Championship title later that year, and is one of only five players to win both championships in the same calendar year. He spent three successive seasons at number 2 in the world rankings, and having compiled 221 centuries is one of several players to have compiled more than 200 competitive centuries during his career.
Paddy Tyndall plays in the Ormskirk & District Snooker League. Over the last couple of years Paddy has won the J.W.Blyden Cup and was also Runner-up in the James Yates Trophy
Claire House is a 10 bedded hospice for children and young people with life limiting, life threatening conditions from across Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man.

Located in Bebington on the Wirral, Claire House is a bright, vibrant place of hope. In addition to caring for our babies, children and young adults, we also focus on the needs of the whole family, providing bereavement and other support for as long as it is needed. With no guaranteed government funding we need to raise in excess of £2.5 million each year to maintain our present levels of service.
Our specialist nursing team also work in the community through our ‘Hospice to Home’ programme which offers paediatric palliative care in the family home. With a hospice to home service also operating from our Liverpool office we are now reaching more families than in previous years and hope to see this grow in other areas too.
Claire House opened its doors to children in December 1998 providing a service for babies, children and young people aged 0 - 23 years with life limiting conditions and their families from Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man.
Since 1998, Claire House has gone from strength to strength and is now providing leadership and focus for its many children, families and staff and also for supporters. In 2006 we opened our teenage extension which provides the facilities for young people, we now provide care for over 200 families.
The facilities are such that at any one time we can accommodate up to ten children and their families. Our building was originally designed in the shape of a ‘C’ and is set in 3.5 acres of beautifully landscaped and adapted gardens, with swings and a play area designed for wheelchairs.
Claire House has been built to the highest standards, while still maintaining a homely environment. All of the children’s bedrooms have doors that open onto their own patio area with a view of either the garden or our spectacular glass and stone water feature. We offer a home from home environment offering a place where families can relax, recharge their batteries and have fun with their children. Expert care is on hand to help them make the most of each day and live life to the full.
Claire House is not a sad place, it is a place for living. It provides an opportunity to share concerns and worries with people who understand. It is a place of fun and laughter, enjoyment, love and support.

Christ Church in Aughton is an evangelical Church of England parish church in the market town of Ormskirk, West Lancashire.
"Our parish of about 8500 is predominantly residential, with no less than five schools (including our own church primary school), but also several farms. Our church seeks to be a place of welcome for all ages and social groups within the parish, and our services aim to be relaxed and participatory. The church building, sited on the A59 halfway between Liverpool and Preston, has a distinctive tower. It is the highest point in West Lancashire, visible for miles around. Our Ministry Centre opened in June 2010, and provides a tremendous resource for discipleship, evangelism and fellowship."
