Dancers from the Kelly Shirley School of Dance, sponsored by Booths, and based at their new studios in Burscough had an extremely busy but extremely successful weekend!  Article and photos sent in by Fiona Hicks from the Kelly School Of Dance.

On Saturday 10th March the dance school performed with a 50 strong troupe at ‘Dance Spectacular’ , a DJ Productions event held at The Globe Theatre, Blackpool.  They were invited to both open and close the show with two of their highly acclaimed dance routines.  Organiser Susan Jones said “Thank you Kelly Shirley School of Dance for a fabulous performance, you are all stars”.

To follow this,  on Sunday 11th March, 20 of the dancers travelled into Liverpool to take part in the Liverpool Naval Club Talent Competition.  They performed three routines and won the competition with new routine “Jive Me Crazy”, taking home both the winners title and prize money!

On the Sunday evening there were more performances as the troupe and soloists from the school took part in the final of the Northern Stars dance competition at Ormskirk Civic Hall.  The dancers from the school, who successfully auditioned to take part, were up against over 40 other dance acts from the area.  The judges of the competition: Adam Marshall – Principal of AJ Dance, Joan Durham, previous principal of her own dance school and Matthew Gregory from the Southport School of Dance, said “The standard of the competition was incredibly high which made the judging extremely difficult, all the dancers who made it to the final show were exceptional and it made for a very exciting and entertaining competition

The title of Northern Stars Winner 2012 was awarded to The Kelly Shirley School of Dance for their routine ‘Latin Fever’.  Dancers from the school also took second and third  places with the associated trophies and prize money.  In second place were Witney Thompson and Holly Stephens with a Lyrical Duet.  In third place came Jessica Mahood and Sophie Howard with a Jazz Duet.

School Principal Kelly Tobin said "The dancers have worked extremely hard on their routines for both the Saturday and Sunday events and have been well rewarded for their dedication.  I am extremely proud of their talent, and professionalism."
